Dear brothers and sisters,
If we seek to follow Jesus, we should be careful not to make Bible-version preference a test of Christian fellowship. Jesus did not command His disciples to defend one particular translation or textual tradition; He commanded us to love one another and to preserve the unity of His church.
We should uphold the verbal, plenary inspiration of Scripture and earnestly seek faithfulness to God’s Word. Yet we should also recognize that faithful Christians use different translations, including the KJV, NIV, ESV, and others. To attack fellow believers or divide the church over these versions risks elevating a human tradition above the unity Christ prayed for.
Please defend the truth with humility, but do not condemn believers who read a different responsible translation. Our discipleship is shown not by hostility toward the NIV or ESV, but by faith in Christ, obedience to His Word, and love for His people.
In Christ,
Reverend So and So
Singapore
