James Version |
The
New International Version |
|
And then shall many be
offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. |
At that time many will turn away from the faith and will
betray and hate each other, |
|
And before him shall be
gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: |
All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will
separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from
the goats. |
|
And they feared exceedingly,
and said one to another, What manner of man is this,
that even the wind and the sea obey him? |
They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the
waves obey him!” |
|
And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread. |
They discussed this with one another and said, “It is because we have no
bread.” |
|
But they held their peace: for
by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest. |
But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued
about who was the greatest. |
|
Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will
ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another. |
“Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you
make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.” |
|
Likewise also the chief
priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others;
himself he cannot save. |
In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the
law mocked him among themselves. “He saved others,” they said, “but
he can’t save himself! |
|
And it came to pass, as the
angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Beth-lehem,
and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto
us. |
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the
shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see
this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” |
|
And they were all amazed, and
spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power
he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out. |
All the people were amazed and said to each other, “What words these are! With
authority and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!” |
|
And they were filled with
madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus. |
But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious
and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus. |
|
They are like unto children
sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto
you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept. |
They are like children sitting in the marketplace and
calling out to each other: “ ‘We played the pipe for
you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not cry.’ |
|
And he said unto them, Where
is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for
he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him. |
“Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. In fear and
amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the
winds and the water, and they obey him.” |
|
In the mean time, when there
were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they
trode one upon another, he began to say unto his
disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is
hypocrisy. |
Meanwhile, when a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so
that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his
disciples, saying: “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees,
which is hypocrisy. |
|
And the same day Pilate and
Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity
between themselves. |
That day Herod and Pilate became friends—before this they
had been enemies. |
|
And they talked together of all these things which had
happened. |
They were talking with each other about everything that had
happened. |
|
And he said unto them, What
manner of communications are these
that ye ahave one to another, as ye walk,
and are sad? |
He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”
They stood still, their faces downcast. |
|
And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within
us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the
scriptures? |
They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within
us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” |
|
Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? |
Then his disciples said to each other, “Could someone have brought him
food?” |
|
How can ye believe, which
receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? |
How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that
comes from the only God? |
|
Jesus therefore answered and
said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. |
“Stop grumbling among yourselves,” Jesus answered. |
|
The Jews therefore strove
among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? |
Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh
to eat?” |
|
Then sought they for Jesus,
and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What
think ye, that he will not come to the feast? |
They kept looking for Jesus, and as they stood in the
temple courts they asked one another, “What do you think? Isn’t he
coming to the festival at all?” |
|
If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your
feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. |
Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet,
you also should wash one another’s feet. |
|
Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake. |
His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them
he meant. |
|
A new commandment I give unto
you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also
love one another. |
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must
love one another. |
|
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if
ye have love one to another. |
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if
you love one another.” |
|
This is my commandment, That
ye love one another, as I have loved you. |
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. |
|
These things I command you,
that ye love one another. |
This is my command: Love each other. |
|
Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us,
A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall
see me: and, Because I go to the Father? |
At this, some of his disciples said to one another, “What does he mean by saying, ‘In
a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you
will see me,’ and ‘Because I am going to the Father’?” |
|
Now Jesus knew that they were
desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and
ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me? |
Jesus saw that they wanted to ask him about this, so he
said to them, “Are you asking one another what I meant when I said, ‘In a
little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will
see me’? |
|
They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots
for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which
saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast
lots. These things therefore the soldiers did. |
“Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get
it.” This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled that said, “They
divided my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.” So this is what
the soldiers did. |
|
And they were all amazed and
marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which
speak Galilaeans? |
Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are
speaking Galileans? |
|
But when they had commanded
them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, |
So they ordered them to withdraw from the Sanhedrin and
then conferred together. |
|
And the next day he shewed
himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again,
saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another? |
The next day Moses came upon two Israelites who were
fighting. He tried to reconcile them by saying, ‘Men, you are brothers; why
do you want to hurt each other?’ |
|
And the contention was so
sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark,
and sailed unto Cyprus; |
They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for
Cyprus, |
|
Wherefore if Demetrius, and
the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is
open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another. |
If, then, Demetrius and his fellow craftsmen have a
grievance against anybody, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. They
can press charges. |
|
And when we had taken our
leave one of another, we took ship; and they returned
home again. |
After saying goodbye to each other, we went aboard the ship, and
they returned home. |
|
And when they were gone aside,
they talked between themselves, saying, This man doeth nothing
worthy of death or of bonds. |
After they left the room, they began saying to one another, “This man is not doing anything
that deserves death or imprisonment.” |
|
And when the barbarians saw
the venomous beast hang on his
hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer,
whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live. |
When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand,
they said to each other, “This man must be a murderer; for
though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not allowed him to
live.” |
|
And when they agreed not among
themselves, they departed, after that Paul had
spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our
fathers, |
They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had
made this final statement: “The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your ancestors
when he said through Isaiah the prophet: |
|
That is, that I may be comforted
together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. |
that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. |
|
And likewise also the men,
leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that
which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error
which was meet. |
In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations
with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with
other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. |
|
Which shew the work of the law
written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing
or else excusing one another;) |
They show that the requirements of the law are written on
their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts
sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.) |
|
So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. |
so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member
belongs to all the others. |
|
Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour
preferring one another; |
Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. |
|
Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but
condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. |
Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be
willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. |
|
Owe no man any thing, but to
love one another: for he that loveth another hath
fulfilled the law. |
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt
to love one another, for whoever loves others has
fulfilled the law. |
|
Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather,
that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way. |
Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not
to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister. |
|
Let us therefore follow after
the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. |
Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to
peace and to mutual edification. |
|
Now the God of patience and
consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: |
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you
the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, |
|
Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the
glory of God. |
Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you,
in order to bring praise to God. |
|
And I myself also am persuaded
of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all
knowledge, able also to admonish one another. |
I myself am convinced, my brothers and sisters, that you
yourselves are full of goodness, filled with knowledge and competent to
instruct one another. |
|
Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of
Christ salute you. |
Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches
of Christ send greetings. |
|
Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to
fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for
your incontinency. |
Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and
for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together
again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. |
|
Wherefore, my brethren, when
ye come together to eat, tarry one for another. |
So then, my brothers and sisters, when you gather to eat,
you should all eat together. |
|
That there should be no schism
in the body; but that the members
should have the same care one for another. |
so that there should be no division in the body, but that
its parts should have equal concern for each other. |
|
All the brethren greet you.
Greet ye one another with an holy kiss. |
All the brothers and sisters here send you greetings.
Greet one another with a holy kiss. |
|
Greet one another with an holy kiss. |
Greet one another with a holy kiss. |
|
For, brethren, ye have been
called unto liberty; only use not
liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. |
You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But
do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. |
|
But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. |
If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. |
|
For the flesh lusteth against
the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the
things that ye would. |
For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and
the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you
are not to do whatever you want. |
|
Let us not be desirous of vain
glory, provoking one another, envying one another. |
Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. |
|
Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of
Christ. |
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will
fulfill the law of Christ. |
|
With all lowliness and
meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; |
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. |
|
Wherefore putting away lying,
speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. |
Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak
truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. |
|
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one
another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. |
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in
Christ God forgave you. |
|
Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. |
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. |
|
Let nothing be done
through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. |
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.
Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, |
|
Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the
old man with his deeds; |
Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old
self with its practices |
|
Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any
man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. |
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of
you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. |
|
And the Lord make you to
increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you: |
May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours
does for you. |
|
But as touching brotherly love
ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to
love one another. |
Now about your love for one another we do not need to
write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. |
|
Wherefore comfort one another with these words. |
Therefore encourage one another with these words. |
|
Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another,
even as also ye do. |
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in
fact you are doing. |
|
See that none render evil for
evil unto any man; but ever follow
that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. |
Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but
always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else. |
|
We are bound to thank God always
for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth
exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth; |
We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and
sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the
love all of you have for one another is increasing. |
|
For we ourselves also were
sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures,
living in malice and envy, hateful, and
hating one another. |
At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and
enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy,
being hated and hating one another. |
|
And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good
works: |
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, |
|
Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil
of his brother, and judgeth his
brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the
law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. |
Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a
brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When
you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. |
|
Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be
condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door. |
Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will
be judged. The Judge is standing at the door! |
|
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The
effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. |
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The
prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. |
|
Seeing ye have purified your
souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the
brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: |
Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth
so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. |
|
Use hospitality one to another without grudging. |
Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. |
|
Likewise, ye younger, submit
yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of
you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility:
for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. |
In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to
your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the
proud but shows favor to the humble.” |
|
Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ
Jesus. Amen. |
Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all
of you who are in Christ. |
|
But if we walk in the light,
as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ
his Son cleanseth us from all sin. |
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we
have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son,
purifies us from all sin. |
|
For this is the message that
ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. |
For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We
should love one another. |
|
And this is his commandment,
That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. |
And this is his command: to believe in the name of his
Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. |
|
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one
that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. |
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone
who loves has been born of God and knows God. |
|
Beloved, if God so loved us,
we ought also to love one another. |
Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love
one another. |
|
No man hath seen God at any
time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love
is perfected in us. |
No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is
made complete in us. |
|
And now I beseech thee, lady,
not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. |
And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but
one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. |
|
And there went out another
horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat
thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a
great sword. |
Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider
was given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other. To him was given a large sword. |
|
And they that dwell upon the
earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets
tormented them that dwelt on the earth. |
The inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and will
celebrate by sending each other gifts, because these two prophets
had tormented those who live on the earth. |
